Finally Caught Up with One Piece

YUUUUUUUUUUP! It's official! Ya boi is all caught up with the One Piece anime as of 31st of July 2023. I got pretty lucky they delayed the Gear 5 episode from 29th of July to the 6th of August lol. I would like to thank my mom, my dad, my girlfriend (who may or may not be real) and all the friends who believed in me (there were none).

All jokes aside, I came back to One Piece after a 2 year break on my birthday last August and in less than a year I managed to go from episode 517 to 1070, which I'm really happy about. The goofy thing is I'm also caught up with the latest manga chapters, but not the ones immediately after Wano so I'm in this weird time limbo where I'm caught up, but also missing some context. I have to thank tiktok spoilers for that. They're pretty much unavoidable.

I got no clue how many anime episodes it'll take for Wano to wrap up completely but I'd guess around 10 to 15 more considering Luffy's fight with Kaido needs to enter its final act, Wano will be saved and I'm assuming we'll get the traditional big banquet at the end of the arc followed by a few characters spread across the new world smiling at Luffy's new bounty.

My plan after that is to fully catch up with he manga and basically be manga only considering when the One Piece is eventually revealed, it'll obviously be in the manga first. That being said, although I may not be keeping up with the anime weekly, I'll watch every new arc once it finishes being adapted.

Quick side note...I gotta say this Kaido vs Luffy fight is exhausting to watch. I thought the final match in the Eyeshield 21 anime and the Goku vs Frieza fights were unnecessarily long and bloated, but this one takes the cake. Kaido began fighting Luffy in episode 1015 (not to mention he was fighting all the samurai prior to that). We're on 1070 rn and for the past 55 episodes I honestly lost count of how many times the dang fight got interrupted, mfs tagging in and out, Kaido going up on the roof, then down in the castle, then up again, then all the way down to the live floor... it's too much bro.

Thankfully Toei reached deep into their pockets and managed to distract us with the best animation we've seen so far, but even with that some episodes felt like they could have been skipped. This fight is gonna be absolutely epic when I watch it as a 10 to 15 minute amv, but watching it in real time is taking a toll on me lol.
