Spring 2024 Anime: What Will I be Watching?

Spring is here yall. Let's see what anime I'll be watching this season.

As always starting off with the 10 most popular anime we got Konosuba season 3 at the number 1 spot. I plan to watch it eventually, but I gotta watch season 2 first. Although I'm still not sold on Demon Slayer, I'm investing my stocks into the new Hashira Training arc with the hope that it's gonna carry this season. Just gimme some more Mitsuri and Shinobu scenes and I won't complain. Check out this absolute train of sequels. We got Slime season 3, Mushoku Tensei season 2 part 2, MHA season 7, Misfit of Demon King Academy season 2 part 2... none of which I plan to watch.

Kaiju No. 8 is something I've had my eye on for a while and it seems like it's finally coming out. Definitely gonna be checking it out. Gonna be skipping Date A Live season 5, but I am kinda interested in the new Spice and Wolf anime. I gotta see the original some time and then hop onto this one. Lastly, we got The Irregular at Magic High School season 3 which is a skip for me.

Taking a look at the other anime... ain't no way. A sequel to Bartender is something I never expected we'd get. When I was watching the original, I found that it could be extremely enjoyable, but you have to be in the right mood. I couldn't watch more than one episode at a time, but when I found that perfect timing, it was surprisingly pleasant. The Fable seems like THE goofy ahh show of the season. The synopsis kinda reminds me of Sakamoto days so I'm expecting this to be a fun ride.

Viral Hit is the latest Manhwa adaptation to come out. I'm calling this as the sleeper hit of the season. Not gonna lie, manhwa adaptations started off pretty rough, but recently they've definitely been getting better with series like Lookism and Solo Leveling. It seems like a good amount of these Korean stories revolve around the same topics of getting bullied until you have some sort of glow up where you start beating the shit outta everyone, but I'm putting my money on this having an interesting twist on the formula.

Highspeed Etoile is a huge gamble. I'm a notorious hater of cgi, but this is the first time I haven't been able to tell if it looks great or if it looks like butt cheeks. A lot of the character movement looks like a lagging GTA cutscene, but some of the car scenes looked insane. The trailer showed us some interesting use of dynamic angles, which did a great job of conveying speed, so if they can consistently pull that kind of quality for the entire run, this has a lot of potential to be great. Speaking of cgi, Go! Go! Loser Ranger! is something I've been looking forward to cuz I've been familiar with its story for some time. Just hoping the cgi doesn't ruin it, cuz the the character movement looks a little sus.

For ONAs we got Hanma Baki vs Kengan Ashura. Needless to say I'm beyond excited since this has been a dream crossover for years, though I gotta admit I'm also a little worried. We all know Baki characters absolutely steamroll Kengan characters so I hope the powerscaling isn't too out of whack to the point where high diff fights make no sense.

Saint Seiya Battle for Sanctuary part 2 is something I'm definitely planning to watch, but I gotta watch part 1 first. I've seen season 1 of this cgi remake and I had a lot of mixed feelings. On one hand, they added a bunch of lame characters for no reason and turned Andromeda Shun from a boy to a girl, which made no sense cuz there was such a huge emphasis on his brotherly relationship with Ikki in the original. On the other hand, the thing that impressed me the most were everyone's special attacks (especially the Diamond Dust) as well as how incredible the Gold Saint armors looked like. Considering this whole arc is the Sanctuary battle, I'm kind of intrigued to see how everything will look. I'm planning to watch part 1 just in time for when part 2 finishes airing.

Finally, for the movies we got Blue Lock: Episode Nagi. I'm not as obsessed about Blue Lock as the fandom at large (Inazuma Eleven on top), but I still found it really enjoyable so I'm willing to check out Nagi's spin off film. Lastly, we got Look Back, which seems like a promising story about creating manga.

As always, here's the final ranking from most to least hype:

Look Back, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, Bartender: Glass of God, Saint Seiya Battle for Sanctuary part 2, Kaiju No. 8, The Fable, Go! Go! Loser Ranger!, Demon Slayer: Hashira Training arc, Highspeed Etoile, Viral Hit, Hanma Baki vs Kengan Ashura

Lemme know what you're gonna be watching too. Thanks for reading!

  1. Great list! Personally looking forward to Viral Hit as I agree - Manhwa adaptations are getting better and Lookism and Solo Leveling are probably just the start! Also agree with the focus on bullying - it's the case in Korean dramas as well - but I'm guessing it is a huge social problem in South Korea. Nonetheless, much to look forward to!
