Fall 2024 Anime: What Will I be Watching?

WARUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP it’s that time again dude. Another 3 months passing, another new anime season starting. As always I’ll take a look at the 10 most popular series and then check out if there’s anything else worth watching.

The top anime this season is Re:Zero season 3. I’ve seen season 1 and don’t plan on watching any more. I don’t understand the hype behind Rem and Ram as waifu materials, cuz I’m not into their looks or personalities, but somebody wake me up if they add a milfy character. Uzumaki is something I’ll absolutely be watching, though I’m kinda questioning why they went with 4 episodes of 20 minutes each, instead of a regular hour and a half movie. This is one of Junji Ito’s most critically acclaimed works, so I’m hoping it’s treated with enough respect to receive a stellar adaptation, instead of something like Japanese Tales of the Macabre, which completely shat on Junji Ito’s shorter stories.

I will also be watching Blue Lock season 2. I like to call this the Jujutsu Kaisen of sports anime, mainly because it wouldn’t have reached anywhere near its popularity if TikTok didn’t glaze it so much. Regardless, still a very solid sports series, with a great ability to convey HYPE! Dandadan is a series I’m going into completely blind. A looooooooootta people are hyped for it and are acting like it’s gonna be the best anime of all time, so I purposefully haven’t even seen the trailer. I got high hopes for this one. Seirei Gensouki season 2 and Arifureta Shokugyoude Sekai Saikyou season 3 are two shows I’ve never even heard of before so I’m in SHOCK they’re above Bleach. As someone who’s read the manga, I CANNOT WAIT to watch Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 (The Conflict). Not only are the events that are about to unfold completely insane, but this is also when one of my favourite anime characters OF ALL TIME makes his grand return. Easily the anime I’m looking forward to the most this season.

DanMachi season 5 is something I’ll get to eventually, but not until I’m caught up. Shangri-La Frontier season 2 however, I’ll definitely watch. I really liked the first few episodes of season 1 and although it slowed down a bit by the end, I still think it was pretty enjoyable. Finally, wrapping up the top 10, we got Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II. Pass. I don’t think my opinion on SAO will ever change. The show was revolutionary when SAO took part in SAO (go figure). Ever since they switched games to that elf world, there was a drop off and when season 2 came out with Gun Gale Online, they completely ruined it. Not planning on watching any more of SAO unless I’m suuuper bored in like 20 years.

Moving over to everything else I’ll watch, the fact that Dragon Ball Daima is the last project Akira Toriyama was involved in and it’s not even in the top 10 is embarrassing. Not gonna lie, I’ve lost respect for the MAL community on that one. BIG L. I’m not expecting this to be a masterpiece and I’ll be watching it exclusively for how cool kid Master Roshi looks, but I think more people should give it a shot, at least out of respect. I’ve seen the newest trailer that came out and it honestly looks like a fun ride.

Ranma ½ (2024) is a remake I did NOT see coming. I haven’t seen the OG anime, but I’ve read a bit of the manga and it was not bad at all. The fascinating is, this is animated by studio MAPPA. I hope it’s between 12-24 episodes cuz if this ends up a long running weekly adaptation… RIP MAPPA’s animators. This one’s a “maybe” depending on the episode count.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Disturbance is the continuation to 2023’s remake version and is another series I’ll get to eventually, but not right now. In this case, I wanna check out the OG anime first since it was made by none other than studio Gallop, who also animated the vast majority of the Yugioh franchise, which is my favourite of all time. It’s gonna be fun to compare to OG to the remake once I get to em both, but for now… MF GHOST SEASON 2 BABYYYYYYYYYY!!! You KNOW I’ve been waiting for this one. As an Initial D fan, I thoroughly enjoyed MF Ghost. As far as sequel series go, this one started off strong. I wish we get a little more fanservice in the form of returning characters from Initial D, but I’m also digging the new cast. The only other thing I’m really hoping for is having more Eurobeat. I absolutely love Wilder Faster Louder, but it also ended up being the only memorable song from season 1. Come on guys, Imma need some fast tempo beats that get my blood rushing. Initial D had no shortage of em, so I hope MF Ghost can keep up.

Moving away from the series, the only ONA I’ll be watching is Beastars Final Season. I thought the reveal of the killer in season 2 was kinda lame and uneventful, but I wanna see where Louis’ story goes. On a side note, still can’t believe this story was made by Keisuke Itagaki’s daughter. Baki and Beastars could not be more different if they tried lol. Plus-Sized Elf apparently has 2 specials coming out, which I’ll check out if I can find.

Lastly, there are 2 films that caught my eye this season. I’m not a fan of compilation movies, but Inazuma Eleven Movie: The Legendary Kickoff might just be worth watching. I’m not sure if this is just a re-edit of the Football Frontier arc or an outright remake with new animation, but I’m hoping it’s the latter. Either way I’m down to rewatch some early Inazuma Eleven, which is peak. Finally, Fuuto Tantei’s movie was a pleasant surprise since I’ve been lowkey waiting for season 2 ever since I saw the first season in 2022. Me liking this series is the closest I’ll ever be to a Kamen Rider fan (I may or may not have considered buying the Kamen Rider Accel belt on ebay).

So yeah, that’s pretty much it. This season is absolutely STACKED! Here's the final ranking of everything I'm planning to watch going from least to most hype:

Plus-Sized Elf specials, Blue Lock Season 2, Dandadan, Inazuma Eleven Movie: The Legendary Kickoff, Shangri-La Frontier season 2, Fuuto Tantei’s movie, Beastars Final Season, Dragon Ball Daima, Uzumaki, MF Ghost Season 2, Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3

Thanks a lot for reading and lemme know what you'll be watching below.
