Spring 2025 Anime: What Will I be Watching?

WARUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!! The Spring 2025 anime season is coming up so as always, I'll take a look at the top 10 shows to see what I'll be watching and then see if anything else looks like a hidden gem. LEZ GO!

First off we got Fire Force season 3. I'll get to it eventually, but I need to catch up first so it's a yes, but not anytime soon. You can NOT tell me, we as an anime community are not STRUGGLING when I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level season 2 is the 2nd most anticipated show this season 💀. I got no idea who's still watching all these light novel isekai adaptations, but it sure af ain't me. Wind Breaker season 2 is something I will check out. Season 1 was ok and I guess somewhat comparable to Tokyo Revengers. The difference is I don't mind watching more of Wind Breakers, while I couldn't care less about Tokyo Revengers. At number 4 we got Lazarus, which is what should be the most anticipated show, considering it's supposed to be the "modern day Cowboy Bebop". Looks pretty promising and studio MAPPA's behind it so I'll definitely be watching it. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a no for now. I'm not even close to catching up on the regular series and I'm in no rush to do so, buuuut I'll probably get to it in the future.

The Beginning After the End is another generic looking isekai so Imma pass. Aharen-san wa Hakarenai season 2 is something I know nothing about so it's another nope. Please Put Them On, Takamine-san seems like a super sussy show. I wasn't too interested until I read there's an ability called "Eternal Virgin Road" (insert Vine boom sound effect). I'll check it out just for that lol. Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive? Is a pass, but the final of the top 10 is Go! Go! Loser Ranger! season 2. To be honest I thought season 1 was pretty mid, but the concept itself is making me believe there's potential. Now that we got done with all the character introductions and set up in season 1, I'm hoping season 2 is much better.

Now that we're done with the top 10, let's check out what else is worth watching starting with Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers. I've never played a single Guilty Gear game, but I've been a fan of the character designs for a while (shoutout Legacy Kaiser iykyk) so I'm excited to check out how it'll turn out. Yaiba: Samurai Legend is a modern day adaptation to an 80s manga and it lowkey looks cleeeeean. I'll give it a shot.

That's it for the series, but there are some ONAs this season that look pretty interesting. To Be Hero X is one of those "Chinese anime" which have become common in the ONA category. The trailer had like a thousand different animation styles ranging from 3D that reminds me of Arcane to 2D that kinda looks like Scissor Seven. I'm a sucker for superhero shows so I'm looking forward to this one. I'll also be watching Moonrise, which seems to have a cool futuristic sci-fi setting and the trailer also sold me on the action. Koisuru One Piece is another One Piece side story/spin off. We've seen a good number of these coming out recently with Monsters and Fan Letter so I'll be checking this one out too. Finally, we got Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game: The Chronicles, which is the Yugioh lore anime. Suuuuuuuuper excited for this one since we haven't gotten anything Yugioh related that's worth watching since Dark Side of Dimensions in 2016. I'm a big fan of a lot of the archetypes that will be covered in the series so seeing animated lore for Blue Eyes, Six Samurai and Ice Barrier will be AWESOME!!

Speaking of Yugioh, this entry isn't listed on MAL as a separate anime, but in April we're getting the beginning of Yugioh GX's 20th Anniversary HD Remaster. EASILY my most anticipated show considering Yugioh GX is my favorite anime of all time. I'm also very interested in how they're gonna remaster it, cuz everybody knows going from a 4:3 ratio to a 16:9 ratio is a total pain in the ass. You basically got 2 options. The first is to zoom into the picture, which grants you that 16:9 ratio, but in doing so you lose a decent amount of the picture from the top and bottom of the screen. The other method is to simply stretch it, which results in no loss of the image, however the characters end up looking wider, which may be off-putting to some.

As someone who has been watching Yugioh AMVs on YouTube since they were basically created in the mid to late 2000s, I've seen both ways being done by the fans who made those AMVs and to be honest if I had to choose, I prefer the stretched method, because the zoom in method cuts too close to the life points border. I realize this is super niche, elite ball knowledge type info no one really cares about, but it matters to me damn it! That being said, I'm 99% sure the remaster will not be using the stretching method out of fear it's seen as more of an amateur technique. What they really should be doing is just remastering the image quality without altering the 4:3 ratio, but I know they'll want to make it 16:9 to look more modern soooo yeah. Ask Dragon Ball fans about any remaster of Z and they'll go into a 17 hour rant about the exact same thing I'm talking about, but even more in depth.

Finally, I got 2 movies which are a total gamble. Mirage Queen Vacances Élégantes seems to be set on a cruise… SOLD! Lastly, we got Mumei no Jinsei and I gotta say… I've seen better animation on newgrounds lmao. This could be a total waste of time, but at least it got me intrigued so I'll give it a shot.

Sorting em all out from least to most hyped:

Mumei no Jinsei, Mirage Queen Vacances Élégantes, Go! Go! Loser Ranger! season 2, Wind Breaker season 2, Koisuru One Piece, Please Put Them On Takamine-san, Moonrise, To Be Hero X, Yaiba: Samurai Legend, Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, Lazarus, Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game: The Chronicles, Yugioh GX's 20th Anniversary HD Remaster

Lemme know what yall are gonna be watching 💪 Thanks for reading!
