STEEEEEEEEEEL BAAAAAAAAALL RUUUUUUUUUUN

WE MADE IT BOYS!!! Steel Ball Run was officially announced on Jojoday! So...let's talk about it.

First thing's first, when is it actually dropping, cuz it was a bold move for them to hit us with the official poster and character designs but no release date. Well, if we look at what happened with Stone Ocean, that was also released in April and the anime came out in December. I wish it was that simple, but it ain't. Remember that terrible release schedule where instead of dropping Stone Ocean weekly or all at once they did the worst thing possible and dropped it in 3 sections, all of which months apart? Assuming they don't pull the same bullshit, I'm pretty confident Steel Ball Run isn't actually coming out in 2025.

Accounting for that fact that Part 7 has 24 volumes in Japan, while Part 6 has 17, it's gonna have a good amount more episodes than Part 6 did, so the production time is also gonna be longer. I'm also hoping they take their sweet ass time and give us fantastic animation so I don't want them rushing any single aspect of it's production. We do NOT want a repeat of Lang Rangler's goofy cgi ass crawling on the walls again and I'm willing to wait out all the time it takes for some masterful animation. There is a sliiiiight chance they might drop episode 1 on September 25th if they plan on working on it while releasing it on a weekly schedule, since September 25th is also the date the Steel Ball Run race officially began in the story. That being said, realistically I think it's more likely it'll come out in 2026.

Next thing I wanna touch on are the color schemes. I know there are technically no "canon colors" in Jojo, but for all of us who read the colored version of SBR, we're used to blue pyjamas Johnny and pink suit Valentine. The official character designs that were released on April 12th confirm we'll be getting a white fit Johnny instead and although we haven't seen Valentine's design, there's a good chance it's also the white suit instead of the Barbie doll one. Ultimately, although I would have preferred the colored manga versions, I'm also fine with these and am grateful we didn't get green Johnny from the videogame lol.

That being said, colors aren't the only thing that's different. Multiple other aspects were simplified for the sake of easier animation. All of the stars on Johnny's trousers have been removed and around half the balls on Gyro's top are also gone. This is a bit of a shame, but at the end of the day, if it results in better animation, it's not the end of the world. They have no excuses now so I better see some 4K 60fps type shit.

The next thing I wanna touch up on is the fat vs fit Valentine debate and whether or not we'll have fat Valentine in the beginning of the story before we get fit Valentine later on. I did a YouTube polls to ask what you guys thought and 76% of the 69k voters said we'd have fat Valentine. I think it all depends on whether or not Valentine's transformation was an intentional part of the story or simply a classic Araki body recomposition retcon like with Josuke, Hazamada and Anasui.

I don't think Araki has ever talked about this, but I'm assuming David Production (which will most likely remain the studio responsible for animating it) has reached out to him for some guidance. If Valentine was intended to have replaced himself with a fitter alternate version or used the corpse's power to... chadify himself, which are all in universe explanations for his glow up, we will infact get fat Valentine at the start of the series. Buuuuuuut my money's on the other option, where Araki simply changed his mind later on and decided to give Valentine a more grandiose build in line with some of the previous villains.

Lastly, I wanna mention... horses. All I gotta say here is we've already seen horses done well in parts 1, 2 and 3, which came out from 2012 to 2015. I promise you no one's gonna be zooming in and squinting their eyes to count every individual strand of hair on the horses' asses so don't worry. We don't want hyper realistic and overly detailed horses, we just don't want cgi ones.

That's pretty much it. I'm beyond excited for Steel Ball Run! I hope they don't goof it up and actually deliver on our expectations, which may be hoping for the impossible considering the entire community expects (pun intended) THE WORLD. That said, I got a good feeling about this and trust they won't let us down! Gimme your thoughts on the Steel Ball Run announcement below 💪😎 Thanks for reading!
